Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I have been in the medical field for almost 30 years and that is all I know. Also, I have covered from the mental Ill to mental retardation and now I have be in the substance abuse field for almost 20 years. I want to continue to counsel with people who need to know their is help if they want it. I may not reach everybody but at least put the word out to them it is up to them if they accept it. So, with the Pastoral Care/Counseling Degree will give me the opportunity to do so.

    Course highlights:

I have not taking this class but I have had substance abuse counseling classes that I have uses as I have preformed substance abuse groups in the past for about 5 years. That is why I want to further my education.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If they are serious about an education they will study. They will take ever moment of their education serious. It is a time to play and a time to get serious and that is what they need to keep in mind.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It is a wonderful, comprehensive course that takes the student from point zero to the point where they could counsel someone using the course's Solution Based Pastoral Counseling method.

    Course highlights:

I learned a five-week method of “solving the problem” using the following solution-based model: recognition that the counselee is the "expert" of their life rather than the counselor, the counselor asks well-defined questions, the counselor and counselee co-develop a goal, seek to find the exception to the problem (when and how the exception happens), use the exception as a basis for the solution, and emphasize the counselee's strengths.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Thoroughly read the directions because the papers often have 10-12 pages of instructions. When approaching a report, just get something down on paper! Just begin and craft it as you go. Give yourself plenty of time to clean-up your copy.
