Not too easy. Not too difficult.
This course was a history major's dream. I felt as if I were watching a television show: "Tune in next week to see if Mustafa becomes sultan!" There was definitely a good amount of reading, and some of it difficult to understand, but by the end of the accompanying class, I always felt confident in the material taught.
I learned about the Ottoman Empire from the early nomadic phases through the height of the empire and to the early 18th century. The lectures were engaging and had a fair amount of humor in them. I knew very little about Ottoman history before taking this course and still did well.

Advice for students:
While the readings may have been difficult to understand, I advise you to always attempt them. I also will say that it is a good idea to focus on the larger themes and connections between eras, cultures, and sultans when studying for the exams.
