Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This intro to biology is extremely simple for students (such as myself) who are not the best at science. Professor Ottarson is very lighthearted and often makes jokes during his lectures and is able to keep the class interested with numerous informative videos and notes. He often incorporates real life events into class and his experiences working in a hospital to help us understand what is happening inside of our own bodies.

    Course highlights:

I honestly am not a huge fan of science, but I found the class to be very interesting! The class mostly covered basic subjects in biology that are taught throughout high school but with more explanation and details. We learned subjects such as genetics, systems in the human body, fetal development, reproductive cycles, and the build-up of cells.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

You most definitely need to attend the lectures or you WILL fall behind. A program called TopHat is required (that you need to pay for) and it will record your attendance and participation. It is extremely important and can make or break your grade. The tests are fairly difficult, especially if you do not attend classes. The notes are online but the professor will go more into depth about the slide in person.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend it because the teacher is someone who likes to try and talk to the class by making jokes and also talking about other things that some may find interesting. However, his teaching style is not the best in the world, so some studying on your own part will be necessary.

    Course highlights:

I learned that if I wanted a good grade, I would have to work hard at it and that I shouldn't take the easy way out. I know some may not like that, but it'seems a great learning experience so that you know how to study and pace yourself for what you may need to do.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

You should make sure that you have the textbook, and that you read it well and study off of it. It will help with the tests and will also help understand the lectures better.

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend the course if you are interested in learning the basics of Biology; on the other hand, I would recommend a different professor. The class was deigned for students who are non-science majors. The teacher made the class feel like I was a Biology major.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the class included working in the Biology lab. Science has never been one of my strengths but I excelled tremendously within this particular Lab. I was able to learn scientifically why I am lactose-intolerant.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you take the course, please choose any instructor other than Alan Ottarson. He did not cater to his students with multiple teaching techniques knowing not all students learn the same.
