    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course provides crucial understanding to the beginning of art history and how art became what it is today. While early church architecture or stone age statues may not be the most interesting artistic subject matter in my opinion, there is a reason behind the teachings of these subjects. That being said, this course is everything you could ask for from prehistoric to medieval artwork.

    Course highlights:

The major highlight of this course was the essay on Minoan artwork. While some exam questions seemed to be designed to trick students, the essay provided a chance to prove a true understanding on the subject matter.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Taking notes on the readings ahead of time allows for a deeper understanding of what is taught in class and helps to allow you to focus on what the professor is saying. However, much of the homework readings are cut from the final curriculum so a good part of notes will be useless in that sense.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I learned more in just the first semester of attending the VCU Arts Program than in all my years of attending art classes. Professors are always accessible and provide very thorough critiques on how to improve on future projects and techniques.

    Course highlights:

I learned new techniques that not only allowed my work to look much more defined, but also in how to apply those techniques in a more timely manner to meet the project deadlines. That was probably the biggest take away for me

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Do not go into this course thinking you know everything or that what you will learn will be worthless. Go into this with an open mind to learn new things and focus on what your biggest weaknesses are and ask for assistance

    Advice for students:

Just take thorough notes and you'll do fine.
