    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Professor Swaddle clearly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. It is a challenging class which required a lot more work than I was used to, but I always felt welcome and even encouraged to attend office hours if I needed extra help.

    Course highlights:

Though I had taken biology classes in high school, this one gave me a much more thorough understanding of how biology is applicable in "real life" across diverse fields.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Definitely study with other people, maybe a group of 3 or 4. Professor Swaddle will tell you this over and over again. Listen to him, it really does help to discuss the concepts before a CAE or exam.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It's a very challenging course and, if you want to decide if you will be a Biology Major, this class will test your willingness and ability.

    Course highlights:

It changed my entire perspective on Biology. The evolutionary portion is almost completely unlike what I learned in high school.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Study at least 3 hours a week. This class is very analytical and you need to understand more than just definitions. Go to office hours for any question you have, no matter how minor.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would most definitely recommend this course. I have never thought so critically about biology. It discourages memorization and encourages discussion and problem solving.

    Course highlights:

I really liked reading our supplemental book "American Catch". It helped make in class topics relevant to life and more specifically life in the United States. Ecology is expanded and made relevant to political, environmental and economic circumstances we face today.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Talk to Cristol! I met with him almost weekly just to share an article I had read or talk about the material. Talking with him helped me understand answers he expected which was a struggle for many of my classmates.
