Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

You cover a lot in BIOL 220 - but you need all of it for any of the higher level courses. It can be a challenge but it really is worth it to grasp the material here.

    Course highlights:

At the end of the semester we did a project where we read research papers and getting a chance to struggle through that higher level material was challenging but really exciting.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Dan Cristol and John Swaddle are not nearly as difficult to work with as people think. They were notoriously hard graders for several years, but have substantially tuned it down for the intro level course. The people who are telling you it is crazy hard are people perpetuating the stories they heard as freshman.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The course is very interesting if you wish to go into science and biology. It deals with topics many people dread, such as ecology, but the teachers do an amazing job explaining the material. Some units are more difficult than others, but the quizzes and midterms tend to be very much correlated with the material taught. For examination like the final, you must be able to apply the material to concept that would not come to mind directly.

    Course highlights:

Some highlights were the fact that they did not take into account your 2 worst quiz grades, so you already have 2 free quizzes you can do not so well on if you have other commitments. And the teachers tend to be be available for you during office hours a lot, it would be advisable to take advantage of their availability.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Do not procrastinate reading the secondary homework like scientific articles he assigns, they will somehow be manifested in midterms and the final. Although he does post every lecture on blackboard, try to pay attention in class, even if you are tired and think you can teach yourself the material later.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It's a great introduction into the world of sciences and also a great major for those who are Pre-med.

    Course highlights:

The best part about this class is realizing how much you didn't learn in high school. The sections we cover on evolution are unlike anything I learned before.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Study for at least 3 hours a week. Try to study 1 hour for each class you attend during the week. Never skip class or you will regret it. Go to office hours, even if it's just to get to know the professor.
