There are many diverse and affordable restaurants near campus, especially Asian cuisine. Pubs and night time eateries make for good meeting places for get togethers with classmates! Also, the campus food mart is really not bad, and the adjoining cafe is nice and quiet.
I joined iEracism, and I know there's a good LGBT club out there too. Keep in mind, though, that different majors have varying degrees of diversity. My degree program (MLIS) isn't as diverse as the Informatics program, for example.

I came to UW after graduating from the University of Hawaii, and was worried about going to college on the continental US since I heard that not many places are as ethnically diverse as Hawaii. However, I was pretty much at ease at UW.
