    | Would highly recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

A challenging and rewarding course, ch 41c is my favorite course at Caltech this far. Beginning with organometallic catalysis and moving quickly through carbonyl and heterocycle chemistry, students are challenged to learn at a fundamental level.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to think about reactions and mechanisms from an abstract position of understanding. Instead of memorizing things, I gained an intuition for chemical systems that is not bound by a textbook's contents.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Go to class, read the book, learn the material, study for the exams, do the homework. Don't just memorize, that's not what organic chemistry is about.
