    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

While this course is challenging, it is necessary for future medical students. Would highly recommend having Professor Clark Landis, by far one of the best teachers I've ever had; very concise with explanations and really cares about your comprehension of the course.

    Course highlights:

Chemistry 104 is, in my opinion, more interesting than the previous course. It included more real life applications and a introduction to organic chemistry; which puts students ahead of the game when they take organic chemistry.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Be willing to put in a lot of hours for studying and reviewing material. It is tedious and frustrating at times, but overall understanding and mastery of material will guarantee an A in the course. By building up a solid foundation, you will be more prepared for harder science courses.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The professor is great at teaching the material, and makes his class interactive and interesting to listen to.

    Course highlights:

Topics covered included thermochemistry, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry and a brief introduction to organic chemistry.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Prepare for your labs ahead of time - it will save you time during labs when you have more important things to work on than planning out what to do.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Block was excellent in conveying all of the course material, and he presented it in a fashion that made the material easy to comprehend. He provided many practice examples, and offered extra homework problems if you found yourself struggling in some of the material. He was always willing to help students understand more by being available, and setting up extra office hours to help students prepare for the final.

    Course highlights:

The highlights I felt were the labs involved in the course, because I felt that more than half were essential to understanding and emphasizing course materials from lecture. I learned a lot about the importance of rate laws in chemistry and how to apply them. My favorite unit was the acids and bases unit, because there were so many interesting components involved, analyzing pKa, pH, determining concentrations of solutions, etc.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

If you put the work in, you will do very well in this class. Not all TA's are helpful, but don't hesitate to go to other TA office hours or stay after lab for a few minutes to get clarification on a concept. Dr. Block is definitely one of the best professors to take this course with, you will understand the materials.
