    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would not recommend this course to anyone who was not required to take it because it is extremely time consuming and requires a lot of focus.

    Course highlights:

I gained a knowledge of organic compounds and reactions from this course.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

To succeed in this class, make it a priority to study every day.

    | Would highly recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this class to anyone who is looking for a great intro for organic chemistry.

    Course highlights:

I have learned how organic molecules interact and react with each other.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

I would suggest doing all of the homework, even if it was not assigned. It is good practice for the tests.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course for anyone who is going into the biosciences. While organic chemistry may not be directly applicable to all fields in the biological sciences, the process of learning the material is invaluable. Organic chemistry is hard, and in learning how to learn the material and problem solve, students gain a better understanding of how they learn, what works, and how to approach difficult course material in future. Also, I found the class to be extraordinarily interesting. Organic chemistry is the basis for all biological processes. With even the most elementary understanding of organic chemistry, students can really come to appreciate the beauty and brilliance in nature.

    Course highlights:

Most importantly, I learned how to approach difficult coursework. I learned how to study properly, how to fail, and ultimately, how to avoid failing. I learned that the textbook can be helpful, but TAs and professors are even more so; office hours are a must. I learned that cramming does not work. As for specific course material, we did a basic overview of some key concepts from general chemistry which include but are not limited to: isomers VSPER theory molecular orbitals bonding bong length electronegativity In addition to the general chemistry material, we learned different types of reactions, reaction mechanisms, stereochemistry, and nomenclature and notation.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Do not skip lecture or discussion. Ask as many questions as you have. Go to office hours. Consult the textbook. Go over notes again after lecture.
