    | Would not recommend.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would not recommend this course with this professor because he goes off on long tangents instead of teaching the material. He also makes some students feel bad for asking questions.

    Course highlights:

I did learn the basics of chemistry and it was a great refresher course before moving on to a higher level of chemistry.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Take this course with any other teacher!

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I honestly have not taken this course, but I am a big fan of science so I do recommend it. :)

    Course highlights:

Being able to recall what I learned in my sophomore year of high school

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Pay attention as always! Taking notes is a must too because of the different names to chemistry.

    | Would highly recommend.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I highly recommend this course, especially if you take the course with Gloria Freschl. Her teaching style allows you to learn the material, not just regurgitating for an exam. This course is a stepping stone before going into the general chemistry sequence. Make sure you pay attention and learn the material in the course. I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do as far as my academic career, so I took Chem 100 with Mrs. Freschl. I can say that she is the main reason why I chose to continue to study chemistry.

    Course highlights:

Regardless of who the instructor of this course is, you learn a lot of the foundation information to continue in higher levels of chemistry. I really cannot think of any specifics or highlights from the course because I enjoyed every lecture and discussion. Discussion is an excellent time to ask questions and have material explained further than in class. This course really helped me learn how to study effectively, which allowed me to apply study habits to other courses.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you do not think or treat this course as a "blow-off" course, if you do, your future chemistry course performance will suffer. Studying chemistry is not easy, especially if you are taking Chem 100 to satisfy a general education requirement or taking it because you are not sure what to study. Make sure you go to every lecture and every discussion; even missing one lecture or one discussion will set you behind a great deal. If you find yourself stuck on a topic or need additional help to understand a topic better, be sure to utilize your teaching assistant or instructor for help. They are there to help you succeed, not set you up for failure. Another great resource is Supplemental Instruction that is available through University tutoring. If you are questioning taking this course, I highly recommend taking it and give it a chance. You never know where your studies will take you, and you might even find yourself loving the subject enough to continue on with it, or even major in it.
