This course is necessary for all James Madison students. It introduces the type of classes that are to be taken if one is to complete a James Madison degree. There is a good amount of reading and writing. One should expect his or her mind to be greatly expanded throughout the course. There are many challenging and new ideas presented here.
In this course, I learned a lot about the beginning of democracy. To me, one of the key moments was when I realized how complex and fragile the American system really is. Here, one learns to appreciate yet think critically about the Founding Fathers of our nation.

I would advise students to not only read all material carefully but to really allow oneself to ponder over the information presented and perhaps even do some outside research on the topics presented.
