    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

I would highly recommend this course because whether or not you are a music fan, VonBerg makes this class entertaining and well worth your time. You are in class once a week and the rest of the time you do work online. There are two papers required and one of them is a live performance report. You are required to analyze a jazz performance (there are many in Fresno throughout the year) and any other musical concert/performance of your choice. Super easy, he gives you a template that basically outlines your paper for you.

    Course highlights:

You learn way more than you expect to. You are randomly split up into groups at the beginning of the semester and with your groups you are required to do a panel and a presentation on a topic you are given. Topics range from jazz to rock, funk and disco, mainstream, R&B, rap and hip hop, alternative, etc.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

My advice would be to get the quizzes done the day they get released. There is one multiple choice/matching quiz based on the chapter and material he uploads on Blackboard and then a 5 minute timed listening quiz. I highly recommend downloading Shazam and using that for the listening quiz, it makes it a lot easier.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I enjoyed this class because the professor actively engaged in the content. He played music samples and genuinely enjoyed the music he was teaching.

    Course highlights:

I learned about the history of Jazz and Rock and Roll, and how those genres developed over time.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

There will be a group project, but the content is fun to learn!

    Course Overview:

I loved Dr. Karr! Great human being, and incredibly engaging. He taught music history by talking about important composers and their lives; it was one big music story.

    Course highlights:

We learned the history of each important composer throughout history.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Do your listening notes early, a few at a time!!!
