This class was tough.
It's a very useful course. One can get very good understanding of the basic control theory and hands-on ability by doing the labs.
Matlab programming skills included using the DSP toolbox and robotics tool box, PID controller design, root-locus techniques and how to design an observer and discrete controller.

Keep practicing the problems in the textbook everyday, try to understand all the key points in the textbook and do enough matlab practice.
