    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

Health Science 101 was the course where I realized I wanted to pursue a degree in Health Science. Professor Ransons was a great teacher for introduction to Health Science. She was an enthusiastic professor that engaged student participation in daily lectures. Being someone already interested in health, it was like a light bulb went off while I was in the class and I realized that this is where I should be focusing my studies. Ransons made learning about the monotonous topics like the three steps to disease prevention incredibly fun and informational. Professor Ransons would share first-hand experience and research project stories she participated in which made the course come to life in relation to current issues.

    Course highlights:

The most important lesson that I took from Health 101 was how important the balance of emotional, physical, and spiritual health is. Prior to this course I always figured health was related to only physical health and I lacked the knowledge about emotional/spiritual health. It was in this course that I realized how little health classes stressed the importance of emotional health during critical periods of life like middle school and high school. In this course I realized how it seems that heath is a course that is kind of getting pushed aside in middle schools and high schools, when this period of life is critical to emotional, physical and spiritual well being. You learn that teenagers are curious and start experimenting with sex, drugs, and alcohol, but there are no school classes that provide a safe haven for students to ask the important questions until they get to college, when it might possibly be too late resulting in teenage pregnancy or alcohol/drug overdoses. This course gives you an overall introduction to important topics that I personally believe should have been implemented at the middle school and high school levels as an introduction to teenagers on the importance of health throughout your entire life.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Take Health 101! Even if you do not wish to pursue a degree in health, it gives you incredibly important information on how to live a healthy life. From small eating and fitness changes, to actual scientific steps proven to get you healthy, health 101 is a course that should be taken. Often for many, college is the first time students are living on their own and they have so much freedom to do what they want. I fully support and encourage individuals to live a life worth living, but be smart, take precautions, and protect yourself in every situation.
