    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course to be very interesting and fun! You learn about acid and bases in a condensed and fast pace environment. General chemistry is time-consuming, but very rewarding.

    Course highlights:

The labs were very fun and also understanding molecular interactions. This class helped with understanding molecular structures and is a must take prerequisite for Organic Chemistry.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the book and do a lot of practice problems.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The course can be challenging by itself. It helps that he is very knowledgeable. He is also a nice professor and is available for you during his office hours. I would definitely recommend going to his office hours, as he is very informative. Sometimes he will give you an example of questions that will be on his tests, so it's very important to pay attention and attend lecture. Only the final is cumulative for his tests. He grades on a generous curve. He doesn't require you to memorize certain equations, only the most important equations will not be given during the tests. His tests are very difficult and long. Often times, I did not finish the tests. So practice is necessary. The labs were fun, but the reports were very long and there was a disconnect between the lab experiments being done and what was currently being learned in the lecture classes. The lab TA is the one in charge of scheduling which labs should be done as well as how he wants the lab reports, so the TA is also very crucial to your experience in this class.

    Course highlights:

The first thing you learn in this course is kinetics, which is about the speed of chemical reactions. This chapter has to be one of the most important chapters you will encounter, along with a few others. This might also be difficult since you start studying this with no background knowledge, unlike chem 120A, where there is some background knowledge gained from a previous chemistry class like chem 115. So I would say that you should make sure that you understand this very well. Also, be sure to understand and study for the acid and base equilibrium portion of this course. He spent a lot of time on this and also the test for this was one of the most difficult ones.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Study and practice a lot. He doesn't leave a lot of time in his tests, so be sure to practice a lot. You have to be able to do it very quickly and without messing up because it will slow you down. If you don't know the answer right away, skip it and move on. Go back to that question if you have time. Also do not slack off when you do the lab reports. They can be very stressful if you do them the day it's due. Read the pre-lab and understand it so you have a better understanding of what's going on in the lab.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I wouldn't recommend this class with this professor. The class itself is challenging but that wasn't the problem. It was my professor that did not teach the material in a clear manner. The way he teaches during lectures is extremely sloppy as there doesn't seem to be an organized system to his lectures. It's more of his work unorganized all over the board. This confuses me and most of the class as it made the material that much harder.

    Course highlights:

The best part of this class was the lab that was associated with the lecture. The labs may be lengthy but they are so fun, for lack of a better word. I found it to be such an exciting experience to be working with actual chemicals and applying learned concepts into real wolrd experiments.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

If you are considering this course, be prepared to make this class your top priority. Meaning, the majority of your studying should be dedicated to this class. It is a difficult class content and work load wise.
