    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

Soc 1 is a great first step at exploring all that the Social Sciences and Humanities Department at UCSB has to offer. Hajjar makes it a point to break down each subject weekly and connect whatever she is teaching in class to what is happening in the outside world. If you are interested in learning about society and what makes it tick, I definitely recommend this class.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course were definitely the guest speakers from our very own Sociology Department at UCSB, we read the material and then were allowed to get up close and personal with the professors about their work. I learned all about Social Movements, the School to Prison Pipeline, how sociology applies to other aspects of life, and so much more. There was never a boring class period!

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the material, pay attention in class. Don't try to copy everything that the professor puts up on the projector, copy what she is saying. Hajjar knows what she is talking about and also knows what is on the exams. As long as you read and pay attention, you will be fine.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The material of this class opened my eyes to the darker nature of global society's machinations. This hurts. But knowledge is power, and one must know one's enemy in order to defeat it.

    Course highlights:

Empowering music played in the lecture hall while students entered made the class that much more bearable. But learning about imbalanced government spending on prisons and weaponry while there is immense poverty makes you more aware of the system in which we live.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Pay attention in lecture. The readings are helpful, but lecture is where key points are driven home.
