Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Overall this was a very informative course, however, the professor does speak in a monotone. It is very easy to take notes in this class as long as you pay attention and don't fall asleep. The professor has very short office hours, but he is very easy to talk to and always willing to help students. The TA's are also surprisingly talkative and helped me to find outside resources to better explain cases.

    Course highlights:

The highlight for me is that the professor expands on everything in his slides and is very passionate about the course. Although this only happened once, Professor Akulov also let one of the TA's gave a presentation on Southern Asian Hinduism. This was the TA's area of study, so he managed to give an expanded and well-detailed explanation that helped me on the test.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

This class was in Buchanan Hall, but I would not recommend sitting in the front. Yes, this is strange advice, but the position of the projector will lead to a very sore neck. Make sure to take notes during the section because those usually answer the section assignments.

    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Material of the course was interesting, but the professor assigned a ridiculous amount of reading every week and constantly went off on tangents during lectures. His lecture slides were mainly images so it was hard to figure out what information was actually relevant to the course.

    Course highlights:

I liked the overall theme of the course. That particular area of history really interests me (world history from the enlightenment era-WWII), so I found some of the readings quite entertaining and informative. I learned more about regions during this period of time outside of the U.S. and Europe, which was different from similar courses I have taken in the past.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

DO THE READINGS! It is essential for your success in the course, as sections are entirely discussion-based and all essay prompts on the exams were based on the readings.
