Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I decided to switch to a Global Studies major after taking this course. Unlike many introductory courses, this course gives you a very accurate overview of the spirit of this academic field and department. The course material could not have been more relevant to our daily lives and offers a dynamic variety of viewpoints on current issues facing our global society today.

    Course highlights:

The greatest highlight of this course is the honours section Professor Juergensmeyer hosts at his ocean front house. We engaged a free-style discussions with him and classmates who share a passion for multiculturalism, social equality, and other effects of globalisation and technology. The professor is incredibly accessible for a UC professor and really tries to make every one of his students feel welcome. He also shares extraordinary, inspiring life experiences like the time he checked out the night life in North Korea.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Definitely go to lecture. A few test questions will on sponatenous moments during the lecture. There's a lot of reading. Dont fall behind on it.

    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

Professor Juergensmeyer is a wonderful professor who engages his students in lecture and provides succint explanations of the material. The midterm and papers are not difficult to prepare for if you stay on track with the weekly readings and sections can be very engaging if you like to debate.

    Course highlights:

At one point I had to learn the entire regions of Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia for the midterm. The course itself delves into the intersectionality of globalization and its effect on a local scale.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Keep up with the readings and don't hesitate to go to Professor Juergensmeyer's or your TA's office hours. They generally tend to be very helpful.
