Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Wilson was the professor that made me fall in love with sociology because he was so passionate about his teachings. He made class fun to go to. He was easy to learn from because he made constant jokes to the class.

    Course highlights:

I loved when we had to create a video about a sociological topic. It let everyone in the class bring out their creative side versus just test taking skills. Going in, I knew nothing about sociology but found out that I loved the topic enough to have it as my major.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

This course does have a lot of work and there are easier teachers. With that being said, he is one of the best professors I have still had 2 years later.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The only reason I wouldn't reccomend this class is because of the profressor, he's not very professional.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this class were being able to develop my writing capabilities and learning more about society as a whole.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

If you're considering taking this course, utilize the online website called "ratemyprofessor.com" before selecting the class you want.

    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

I highly recommend students to take Dr.Jake Wilson. Professor Wilson's sociology class was one of the best courses I have taken at CSU Long Beach thus far and I am planning on taking more of his classes in the future. Dr.Wilson makes students use their sociological imagination to understand the concept of gender roles as well as race and how it plays a role in society.

    Course highlights:

In professor Wilson's Sociology 100 course I learned about gender marked roles and how they place pressure on men and women in society. I also learned about race, racial profiling and the high rate of incarceration in the U.S. Furthermore, I also learned about the high rate of people living in poverty and the day to day struggles that they face to be able to "get by". This course focused immensely on how to apply our social imagination to issues happening around us that we don't always focus on or realize. Dr.Wilson made us do a group project which was to complete 12 hours of community service and me and my group chose to do it at a facility where they have women who are on parole. I truly enjoyed my time at the facility, helping to make holiday letters for residents and people who would like to donate gifts to these women. I loved my experience in Dr. Jake Wilson's class and I encourage every student to take his Sociology course, I ensure that you will not be disappointed.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

The best advice I can ever give a student taking this course or any other course is to take their education seriously. Gaining knowledge is one of the best tools to be successful. Leaning new concepts will allow you to understand life and life situations in general. If you plan on taking professor Wilson's course make sure you complete every assignment and participate in class discussions to get easy points. Additionally, he assigns two essays on gender roles and race/incarceration rates which are really easy if you elaborate on both topics. I was able to get an A on both essays so I'm sure everyone is capable of doing the same.
