    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr.Odom is knowledgable in the subject of Genetics. He is one of the most prestigious professors at CSUN. He was challenging on his exams and you would definitely need to understand the concepts of the previous exam to do well in the next. Dr.Odom would host study session which were life savers! He dedicated so much of his time for his students no matter if it were a weekday or weekend.

    Course highlights:

The course highlights revolved around applying genetic concepts and codes to everyday experiences in our lives. For example the Punnett Square could be used to determine the genetic outcome of an offspring. This could be applied to a couple expecting a child and the outcome of the hair or eye color of the prospective offspring.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Genetics was without a doubt one of the toughest courses I have taken in my academic career. I recommend putting in at least 9-11 hours a week for studying. Group study will make a huge impact because you will learn things from your classmates that you wouldn't if were to study alone. There was math involved in the course, but it was extremely basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The textbook did a great job if you needed clarification for a certain topic and provided great illustrations as well. This course requires everyday attention and I recommend visiting office hours if you have any questions. It is very easy to fall behind and it is up to you to put in the effort to comprehend all of the aspects of Genetics.
