Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Prof. Bontems simplified the many complex organic chemistry concepts in her courses effectively, which helped decrease the typical intimidation faced by STEM students required to take chemistry courses. The course taught how to approach organic synthesis with a solid grasp of all the possibilities in pathways and the limitations thereof.

    Course highlights:

Prof. Bontem's fast pace and regular in-class assignments encourages group discussion that help solidify one's understanding in chemistry concepts. Labs were especially interesting due to learning how to apply and operate practical chemical techniques, and -- if taking honors -- the presentations provide a greater depth on the relevance of the concepts discussed during the regular class time.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

The textbook is required. Study guides are online and give points, but must be completed weekly/by class. Always check the syllabus for when a study guide is due -- sometimes two are due for one day. "Quizzes" are also online, but are only ~5 questions worth only a few points. Homework from the textbook is assigned with the study guides, but they are not necessary to receive points. However, the HW helps a TON to solidify the topics covered in-class. In summary, always complete the Study Guides and "Quizzes," but the HWs are not needed though they are quite useful. Sometimes, the HW answer books are not included with the text. Double check if you want that extra practice, which may be extremely useful in the long run.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course, as well as the professor, because it is very interesting to know several information about organic compounds.

    Course highlights:

I have learned numerous information involving organic compounds. The principles behind organic reactions and the mechanisms for organic compounds synthesis.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

If there is something difficult to understand, don't hesitate to ask the professor. Spend time answering questions at the end of each chapter.
