Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

It was a great way to learn about the history of music and how it has shaped music today. I enjoyed learning how to listen more closely to classical, romantic, and baroque music and gain a greater appreciation for it.

    Course highlights:

I liked the learning environment. We listened to plenty of examples and discussed the music in groups. I really enjoyed the concerts I attended and reflected on in brief essays for extra credit.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Listen to the music examples from the textbook at home and study as you go rather than trying to memorize the form, genre, style, year, and composer of each example the night before the test.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

If you enjoy broadening your music taste, understanding the history of music and attending concerts for homework, then this class is for you! Professor Smith will keep you laughing as you learn.

    Course highlights:

A highlight of this course was seeing my Professor play with the Utah symphony. I learned how music can change you. How it can awaken a feeling deep within that you never knew lay dormant up until this point. The point in which Mahler Symphony number 5 enters into your life. I learned more in that 1 hour than my whole life.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Attend as much live music as you can! It will make you appreciate what you learn in class that much more.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I took this class for my Fine Arts credit for my generals. I have played the piano and violin for many years, and played in a few different orchestras. I figured I would know everything in the class, however, it was amazing to get new insight and history about music in general and about how different music came to be.

    Course highlights:

I gained a further knowledge about the history of music and how different music started, and progressed. I also learned so much about composers in different eras and different techniques and styles the composers of differing eras used.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared for tests by studying with flash cards! It sounds like an old myth your grandmother tells you to do, but I promise, flash cards will help you study so well.
