    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This is a course that assumes you are fairly experienced programming in C, in spite of being named "Intro to C". Also, this is a CS course that MechEs are required to take, so if you're like most people you'll hate it.

    Course highlights:

This course forced me to learn C. It also taught me I hate programming.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared for long hours teaching yourself C, because this course won't.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This is by far my favorite course that I have taken at RPI. At first it's a little overwhelming because the professor pretty much says "this is what you need to do, now get started", but I learned so much in this class and was really a great experience.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to program in C, as well as the operations of a pretty standard microcontroller at a very low level.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

There are two exams split into a written and online portion. Make sure to study up and do not get discouraged by a low score on the written portion. The class is usually curved, and in the lab are where you actually learn, not the homework. Make sure you do the work or understand what your partners are doing, otherwise you will do poorly on the exams.
