Because you develop a sense of our roots and where american literature came from. Furthermore, you get a broad view on a different type of literature that is similar in language but different in material due to different situations that each culture has faced.
The highlight of this course was the ability to come out of my introversive shell and spend a good amount of class time speaking and making my opinion be heard on different topics.

It is worth it, even if you do not see yourself becoming an english or english related major in the future, and will give you the skills you need to take english courses in college and in senior year.
