    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

All in all, chemistry plays a HUGE role in everything we do. Chemical reactions are actually surprisingly useful to know in the kitchen! It's pretty fun to see why things work out the way they do. Ms. Nordby is a great teacher as well. She's sarcastic, but gets the lessons across just fine. I'd say that it's a useful course to take. No fluff found in this class. It gets down to business.

    Course highlights:

For me, the organic chemistry unit was the most challenging, but it also was super fun after I got the hang of it. It was my highlight. There's a lab with ketones and esters, and we found out how different scents are made (like banana and wintergreen)- that was entertaining.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Always stay on top of the homework. It will help you. Take as many notes in class as possible, even if you don't understand at first, because you'll be thankful for them later when you have assignments related to them and a notebook full of notes that didn't make sense before, but kiiiiiind of look familiar later on. Am I speaking from personal experience? Yes. Yes I am. As far as study tips go, I'd say that if you don't understand something, always ALWAYS go to YouTube (if you cannot speak with your teacher). It's a lifesaver.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Even though this course is difficult, it was satisfying once you understood a concept. I struggled at times because it was almost like having a second math class, however it was manageable and a great experience.

    Course highlights:

I learned that chemistry has many different branches to it. I learned about biochemistry which I found to be very difficult. Overall I learned that chemistry requires a lot of attention because it can be very tedious work because it is more than just mixing two chemicals together.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

As long as you keep up with the readings in the textbook and take good notes you will do fine. I recommend going in either before or after class if you don't understand something because the teacher will further explain and help you out more than he/she was able to in the classroom.
