Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

It runs parallel to the Spaniards conquest of Latin America. The Philippines shares striking similarities of colonization, however, their outcomes from freeing themselves from Spain compared to Latin America is vastly different.

    Course highlights:

The highlights were the village patriarchy prior to colonization under the leader called a Datu. The role of Datu evolves with the new power structure under colonial rule and in many ways still plays a role in modern day politics in the 21st century. The original make-up of a village is not the corrupt governance that happens today and for decades since becoming they own sovereign nation, however, Datus have maintained power and influence through all their years.

    Advice for students:

Do not miss any assigned readings and participation class with questions from the readings to gain further understanding of the topic.
