Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would highly recommend this course, as Professor Van Vleet does an outstanding job of explaining complex ideas and terms in philosophy, and encouraging even the quietest members of the class to participate. The main thing being that even though philosophy can be a very biased area, Professor Van Vleet does a superb job of presenting the various viewpoints objectively, and providing each student the opportunity to form their own views and opinions.

    Course highlights:

We talked through the basic schools of philosophical thought, and how we are to study philosophy. We covered ancient Greek philosophy, including classics such as Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato. We then covered philosophers such as Immanual Kant, Karl Marx, and Jean-Paul Sartre and their views of philosophy. We would also dive briefly into views not covered in the “Western Philosophy” class, such as briefly going over Hindu philosophy, mentioning religious existentialism with Soren Kierekegaard. Overall, it was a very thorough class that gets you thinking!

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you participate! Professor Van Vleet does not have many assignments, but the condition being that you will participate in class, and you will be a part of the discussions that take place in class.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it allowed me to view various ethical dilemmas from different points of view.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course were discussing and debating various ethical dilemmas and learning about different philosophical viewpoints on modern day issues, as well as the end of the term debates.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure to study and memorize different philosophical viewpoints.
