Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I recommend this class because the classroom is set up meeting-style where it's easy to engage with the class. We discus current events and write papers relevant to today's issues.

    Course highlights:

We read a book called The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollen which addressed the current issue of GMO's. Through a series of debates, we discussed the pros and cons of GMO's and how they have affected the U.S. We then went into the health benefits of organics and how to discern "corporate organics" to that of a more reliable source. Lastly, we had a 'organic potluck' where we brought food from scratch GMO free to share to class.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Keep up with the reading! We get tested on the readings during class and it is easier to participate in the class discussions. Don't miss an Essay! Essays are worth a lot of points and it will bring your grade down considerably.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The instructor is great because he understands that students have a life outside of school. Unfortunately he is a procrastinator himself which may lead to the course being crunched for time as the end of the term closes in.

    Course highlights:

I learned about keeping an open mind and thinking critically. The instructor allows you to pick your own topics but cautions to pick a subject that you are able to entertain both sides for an effective argument

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Utilize the writing lab. They are there to help you and will review your paper and assist you in any way possible. Its great to get an extra pair of eyes on your work prior to reliquishing it for a final grade. Also, taking advantage of office hours would be wise, along with the grace period on due dates if need be.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Mr. Harrison was a hard teacher but he made sure that you were never wasting your time and always learning something important.

    Course highlights:

In writing 122 with Mr. Harrison I learned about passive verbs and mechanics, how to write a good argumentative research paper, how to find good reliable sources through research librarians and the schools data base, what a crux is, how to really gain information from essays we read in class by doing reading responses, and how to start an essay.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you are considering this course, know that Mr. Harrison is a very challenging teacher. If you can't handle doing four essays in one term that consist of a planning page, a rough draft, a revision, a final draft, and another revision, plus reading required material out of the text and doing reading responses on them, then I would consider a different teacher. The course is a challenge and Mr. Harrison puts you to work, but at the end of the term you will be glad that you have taken it. You learn so much and Mr. Harrison never wastes your time. He also always has helpful advice and is always around when you need to ask questions or talk about assignments.
