    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

Social Psychology offers any student the chance to learn the basic concepts that drive their everyday decisions and live lessons. Knowing how you yourself and those around you think and process information, allows an inside look into why people of all backgrounds and cultures share similarities in terms of their cognitive abilities and the reasons humans are quick to feel frustrated about something, or slow to be able to rely on others around them with trust. Humans of different backgrounds can trace the causes and effects of their environments to why they may possess a certain form of thinking about a particular topic. Growing up in a religious or secular family, for instance, may shape one's ambitions in life, or what they perceive to be the truth. Understanding how our minds interact with the environment is essential to understanding ourselves and the world.

    Course highlights:

One of the key highlights is the fact that humans think in a group-mentality. In that respect, humans have a quick knack for conforming to a situation or the thought processes of those around them whom an individual may feel pressured by. This pressure may, for instance, cause a quiet, introverted individual to get out of their comfort zone at a party or in a fun setting when a social norm is established by the group that appears to make it okay for the individual to have fun with no consequence or fear of being ostracized.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

It is a great experience to learn more about yourself and how biological factors play a role with the social factors around you. Taking this course prepares you and heightens your sense of patience and understanding when it comes to situations that may bring frustration or anxiety. Knowing how our minds work gives us a perfect play book to how best to avoid feelings of doubt, depression over something that is not realistic, or anger over the absence of an event that may have been unhealthily idealized from the start. Our minds are complex and sometimes misleading, but psychology offers many answers to the doubt humans may feel about the strength of being human.
