    Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

    This course provides interesting insights into the materials that make up most objects we interact with on a day to day basis. You learn about everything from crystalline structures of metals, to polymers and their recycling codes to stress-strain plots.

    Course highlights:

    I think the unit on advance materials was very cool. You get a great view of how semi-conductors and solar panels functions, as well as a look into futuristic materials such as carbon nanotubes and graphene.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

    Be prepared to do a lot more memorization than you do in most other engineering courses.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    This class is a very in-depth course into wide knowledge of materials and the science behind them. It gives great insight into the real world applications of materials and how they can be used effectively, which I find very useful compared to many courses.

    Course highlights:

    Professor Goodman is fun, engaging, and extremely knowledgeable on the subject, and the course material itself is very interesting and applicable. It gave me unique knowledge on the creation, selection, and usage of materials that I have not found in other course and find to be very beneficial.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

    This course is very interesting and applicable, but covers a very large amount of material very quickly, and requires deep thinking and hard work. Professor Goodman is a great lecturer and resource, but he pushes you to think deeply and learn and research a lot on your own, but I found it to be overall very rewarding.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    I would recommend taking MSE 280 with Goodman as the professor because he allows you to get back some bonus points throughout the semester. While there is a lot of information in this class, if you attend lecture and study his powerpoint slides, you will do well on his exams.

    Course highlights:

    The most important thing I learned from this course was how to calculate stress and strain on an object. Other than that, this course provides a lot of specific information about various materials used today such as LCDs, MOSFETs, and others that provide a good insight on how today's technology works.

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

    The biggest study tip I can give is to really review his slides and understand terms and concepts. Calculations and equations are important, but a majority of his questions were multiple choice, short answer, and fill in the blank.
