    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

I would highly recommend this course for students because it allows you to think outside the box and learn more about culture. The films studied in this class are classics and all have a wonderful message behind them.

    Course highlights:

Writing on Film is an English elective course and is focused around studying classic films of all genres and analyzing the elements of film such as camera shots, costumes, lighting and sound. I enjoyed this class because I was able to be exposed to more elements of culture by watching different genres of film, and learn the deeper meaning of the film. Utilizing my creativity to analyze these films has expanded my creative capacity. The most interesting part about this class was getting the opportunity to delve inside the mind of the director and learning how to look through the lens of the camera as if it were the director's own eyes. After taking this course, I will never be able to watch a film without analyzing all of the elements and interpreting the director’s overall message.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Keep an open mind about all of the films even if you don't like them, there is still awesome symbolism behind each one! Also do your work and hand it in on time and you will do great in this class.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This one of the best classes that I have ever taken. I did not enjoy literature at all before having Ms. Kettle as a teacher. She taught me how to appreciate symbolism and think critically about works of literature. The class included much full-class discussions and Socratic Seminars. While analyzing the literature required by IB, we also watched and analyzed films such as What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Moaning Lisa Smile. Additionally, there were many group projects in which students could get creative through making movies, songs, or pieces of art. As long as effort is put in, it is not at all difficult to achieve a good grade in this class and each class period is an extremely enjoyable one.

    Course highlights:

The first highlight of this course was reading "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" in class. It is the first short story in Nine Stories by J.D. Salinger and is filled densely with symbolism. It is so enjoyable to read and analyze with Ms. Kettle. The second highlight of this class is reading Song of Myself by Walt Whitman outside on the field with Ms. Kettle. Whitman is the last author studied in the class and this is an amazing experience to end the year with. Overall, I learned to appreciate and understand meaning in literature in this course.

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Even if you don't like English and have to take it due to full I.B., come into it with an open mind.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Ms. Hoyt is helpful, insightful, and a teacher that will help you in any way. She is the kindest human being I have ever met, and she is so passionate about the subject of IB English.

    Course highlights:

I have gained a literary insight from taking this course. I have learned more than expected. Class discussion is most important, something that means a lot to me. Through class discussion we share ideas and contemplate a vast array of meanings for a topic.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

My advice would be to always do the reading assigned, to ask questions, and to be very open to class discussion.
