    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

From Shakespeare to James Joyce, the words come alive on the page when Dr. Lehman analyzes literature. Beyond gaining AP credits, this class will prepare you for the AP exam perfectly, to the point where you barely need to study before the exam because Dr. Lehman has taught you so well.

    Course highlights:

James Joyce will never be an easy read, but Dr. Lehman makes A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man understandable, enjoyable, and fascinating. I learned wonderful skills of analysis that will assist me not only on the AP exam, but also in college and beyond. The writing skills you learn in this class will be forever useful.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Do the reading and write your essays, but most importantly: participate in class discussions! The thoughts of your peers and Dr. Lehman may be eye-opening and mind-boggling, and discussing the texts will really help you understand them.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it is a fantastic college preparatory course as it typically consists of nightly readings and written responses to these texts. The class has also improved my writing abilities tremendously as the sheer quantity of writing opportunities has allowed me to explore countless techniques. Additionally, my close reading skills have further developed due to our class discussions over complex novels such as Chronicles of a Death Foretold.

    Course highlights:

From this course, I improved my ability to connect the dots between symbolism, motifs, and themes of novels. This is a skill that few classes emphasize; however, it is a trait that is critical to success in an english course.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would recommend that you thoroughly read each piece of literature that is assigned because it is necessary for class discussion and your own understanding. Also, completing each writing exercise with precision and effort is extremely important. In order to receive helpful feedback, you need to turn in your best work so Dr. Lehman can make any vital changes to your writing.
