    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Kosinski is a phenomenal professor, although his teaching style requires an open mind and willingness to take the time to study and prepare for the exams. You learn vast amounts of knowledge about the subject and are left with a valuable tool (a handbook with terms and diagrams, written by Dr. Kosinski) to use in classes to come and for a refresher whenever necessary.

    Course highlights:

Usually Biology majors take this class, and, if you're a Biology major, I assume you have some interest in the subject. This class gives you insight about the fundamentals of Biology and really prepares you for classes to come by making sure you have enough knowledge on each subject to succeed.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

I recommend using Quizlet for this class. Make flash cards of all the terms in the handbook to study with. Then use Dr. Kosinski's review questions to ensure you fully understand the concepts. Dr. Kosinski also holds review sessions weekly to answer the review questions if you want to ensure you understand them fully. Then, take the practice tests in the handbook to really nail it down for the exams.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Kosinski is passionate and well organized. I learned more in this class, my freshman year, than I did in many of my subsequent classes. While it was a very heavy workload, and it was in no way an "easy A", this class taught me way more than course material. I learned how to effectively study, time management and how to seek out help in the form of tutors and professors to get an A.

    Course highlights:

Dr. Kosinski's class spanned everything from plants reproductive cycle to cancer. To this day I remember being incredibly moved by his testimony about how cancer has impacted his life and his ability to make information relevant and easy to remember. He also taught us mnemonics and silly sayings to help us memorize the more difficult concepts.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Stay on top of your course work and take detailed notes in class. Do not be afraid to seek out the free tutoring options on campus or to ask your instructor for clarification in office hours.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Being a microbiology major, I love biology and it is my favorite subject. Kosinski's class is very challenging, but the way he teaches allows for me to really learn the material and not just memorize it for the tests.

    Course highlights:

My favorite part of this class was Kosinski's demonstrations for different concepts, and his memes. His demonstration for DNA replication is my favorite. Each of these demonstrations really helped me to better understand the concepts, and now I definitley know DNA replication, and have a visual image that i think about everytime I think bout DNA replication.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Go to all of Kosinski's review sessions and use the test questions in the lecture guide to study for the test. Also, start to study new material you learn, the day you learn it and continue to study it even after the exam. His final isn't cumulative and neither are his tests technically, but you need to be sure you know all the material you have learned up to that point to get an A on the tests. Each test has one or two questions related to previous material on it.
