    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I recommend this course to anyone who has a passion for science. In Biology 1 honors you get an awesome introduction to one of the core sciences. In other words, this is an important class to take as a freshman because it could affect the rest of your high school career. If you like the class, then perhaps a career in science is the way to go. However, this class can also make clear that your desire is to steer clear of anything to do with biology. Either way, this class gives excellent insight into the world of science.

    Course highlights:

The most interesting lessons had to do with chromosomes and DNA/RNA structures. It was truly fascinating to learn about how humans get their genetic traits. I soon learned how to determine what all of the potential offspring of two organisms would look like and what percentage of their offspring would look a certain way all by using simple equations!

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

There are two pieces of wisdom I would like to share with anyone who is reading this: actually try during this course and don't be too discouraged by what happens in the class. The first is important because people often realize too late that every grade matters in high school. Some colleges look at your freshman year too, so give it your best shot! Don't kill yourself to get a perfect grade, but you have to quickly understand that classes are harder than they were in 8th grade and that you will reap the benefits of a strong starting GPA. The second thing that you need to take to heart is that high school is harder than anything you are used to. Also, you are most likely with a much larger set of people, so even if you were the smartest kid at your middle school, the intelligent students from other schools are now sitting next to you. Before I realized this, it made me quite depressed, but as time passed I came to understand that maybe I wasn't the most brilliant kid on campus anymore, but I was still smart! Not everyone is top of their class, in fact only on person is, so don't worry if you are not that person. Strive to be the best at what you do, especially the things that you are truly interested in, because that will insure that you are always allowed to sit with the smartest students.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The teachers are good at explaining material and are available to offer help during office hours and tutoring. However, the class is pretty hard if you aren't good at concept-based material.

    Course highlights:

The course cover a wide variety of topics. The labs that we did applied what we learned in the powerpoints and were interesting to carry out.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Study the powerpoints and worksheets before the test at the very least. Reading the book is very helpful. DO take advantage of office hours.
