Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend taking this course, because it breaks down public speaking so it does not seem as nerve racking. We learn five types of speeches: cultural, informative, persuasive, commemorative, and impromptus. It made me realize how all the great speakers out there use basic techniques that you can learn in the first speech class you will ever take. The curriculum is straight forward and you can improve in a short amount of time if you put in the effort to practice.

    Course highlights:

From taking this course, I learned how to be a more organized speaker. Public speaking is still nerve racking to me, and I don't think it will ever go away, but learning how to speak in front of an audience is a very important skill to have, whether in an interview or in front of hundreds of people. I also learned that you can get better at public speaking, because it is not a talent that many people are born with, but learned through practice and examples set by experienced public speakers.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would tell them to keep on top of outline writing, because outlines organize what you will be speaking about, and having them done in time will let others give you feedback before Speech Day. I would advise them to rehearse their speech the night before, so they will not be constantly looking at note cards during their speech. The most important thing I learned thought watching fellow student speak is that is crucial to always speak in a loud, clear voice.
