    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

Caroline is a great professor, and very capable of balancing the needs of students from diverse backgrounds in English speaking and writing. As a native English speaker, I as somewhat ahead of the curve at Seattle Central, and Caroline was willing both to let me pursue topics that I found challenging, and to provide special guidance in exploring these topics. it is rare to find a professor with the willingness to be so flexible.

    Course highlights:

The course centers around two big research papers, with two broad themes. The themes change from year to year, and students are given a lot of freedom to pursue the topics of their choosing within the theme. Our themes, for example, were beauty and memory, and I chose to write about neuroaesthetics and nootropics. Caroline helped me to navigate fairly complex and detailed research, and pointed me to professors with relevant experience where she could not.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared to put in the time to write two lengthy research papers. Even if you choose relatively simple topics, twenty page papers are a time commitment, and many students fail to realize this going in, only to panic later in the quarter.
