    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Self-study is a great way to learn! Especially with all the free educational websites (especially Khan Academy, Coursera, EdX, and Duolingo), self-study is definitely worth the time and effort, and can honestly provide you with a better education than you might get from your teachers--plus it allows you to study what you want, when you want. And, it teaches you how to learn on your own--a valuable skill in college! All in all, would highly recommend.

    Course highlights:

I learned self-discipline, ways to motivate myself, and time management--not to mention the actual material!

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

It's worth your while, even if you're in school, to take at least one course by yourself. Pick your subject, use an educational website like Coursera or Khan Academy, and take a study hall instead of doing that class in school. Then, during that study hall, work on your homework from the online course. Especially if you undertake a course with the intention of taking an AP exam, self-study is an extremely rewarding way to go--when you get your grade from the exam, you can say with confidence that *you* did that, all by yourself. That's a huge step, especially when preparing for college or adult life--an achievement that you've reached, *all by yourself*. Self-study isn't for everyone, but if you have the right mindset, it is absolutely worth your while. Try it out on just one course this semester, and if it works out, do it next year and beyond! It's a lifelong skill :)
