Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it offers an in-depth view into classic novels and how the English language operates. From analyzing poems to group discussions, I feel like I have a better sense of how to examine words and sentences and look for the deeper meaning.

    Course highlights:

The biggest highlight would have to be the group discussions. Offering my opinion up to my group and then hearing their own perspectives helps me better understand the material at hand. Also, it's nice to form new friendships through unlikely means like a group discussion.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

You should definitely be reading the books, instead of getting all your information from Sparknotes or another summarizing website. However, using Sparknotes along with the books allows for much better clarity on the material and a more meaningful look into what's really happening.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

If you're going to take an IB English class, take English IB HL, not SL. The work is easier for HL students, specifically because Niccum grades very tough. Additionally, it's almost impossible to get college credit for SL, whereas you can actually get credit for HL classes.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course is the 15 minutes of SSR at the beginning of class, the workdays she gives for reading, and the days we had a substitute teacher.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Even though she tells you not to use spark notes, read the spark notes, the gradesaver notes, and schmoop notes. Also, when preparing for a test, do the quizzes on these websites as many of her test questions are either similar or exactly the same as the quizzes on those websites.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The class gives you the option to go more in-depth into novels and show you important writing skills.

    Course highlights:

I loved reading Wuthering Heights and many different novels. I also loved understanding poetry and seeing what the true meaning of the writing is all about.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would always study for pop quizzes and read the chapters assigned in class.
