    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Anthropology helped me grasp a better understanding about the various aspects of humans. Every day in this class challenges you to think outside your comfort zone. This isn't a class that you come into and get an easy A just for being there. Anthropology challenges your mind and lets you explore what makes us human dating from past and present societies.

    Course highlights:

In Anthropology, I had to write a research essay. It could be on any branch of Anthropology and the opportunities were endless. I chose to write mine on African Shamanism which is a healing ritual done for centuries in African culture. I learned about how the people in this specific tribe viewed themselves and one another. It was inspiring to read how they invested themselves wholeheartedly into their rituals. Even some hospitals in the U.S. will have Shamans (those who perform the rituals) on staff and I think that's incredible. Writing this essay was the most proud I have ever been in college. I completely threw myself into studying Shamanism and wrote my essay not for the grade, but for the sole purpose of education.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Have an open mind. We belong to a world with so many different walks of life and the conversations we have in this class will remind you of that. It is okay to be opinionated, but make sure that you are willing to educate yourselves not only about your own understanding, but about others views too.
