Not too easy. Not too difficult.
I would highly recommend this course, mostly because it's just a lot of fun. Sure, there are a lot of terms to memorize, but it was fun learning about other cultures and just listening to new types of music. There was a term paper we had to write, but honestly, it wasn't that hard. I feel like the professor and TAs went easy on the grading for it. There's three midterms, but everyone in class collaborated to make a Google doc to review for them, so the midterms shouldn't be too bad as long as you look at the doc.
A definite highlight of this course were the three workshops during our discussions where we actually got to play the instruments we learned about that week, which I thought was a really cool and interactive way to get to know the material a little better.

Advice for students:
It definitely helps if you have some basic music knowledge (basic musical terminology) before you take the class, but the first week of class, you just learn about basic musical terms and other important stuff just in case you have no prior knowledge. Also, this specific professor didn't post his lecture slides, so you have to kind of write quickly if you want to get everything on the slide in your notes (or you could always kind of send a mass email asking for lecture notes, but that's kind of awkward and lazy...).
