    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course gives you the insight into the medical marvels behind everything your body does, everyday, that you just take for granted. LS 2 is difficult, no doubt, but what it lacks in easiness it makes us for with its interesting content. It's actually surprisingly cool to learn about how a bird breathes and why certain animals can survive at higher latitudes than humans can. It's fascinating to be able to explain how exactly certain drugs affect neurons and lead to different feelings and awesome to be able to explain the chemistry behind gas exchange and anatomy behind the circulatory system that so many people overlook. Take this course and be prepared to learn a ton!

    Course highlights:

I gained so much knowledge regarding the human body, our environment, and the creatures around us from this course. The material is truly interesting and if you just open your mind enough to the topics being talked about in order to allow your mind to engage in the material, you will find your curiosity increasing rapidly. With every topic I learned about, there were fun facts that proved the body is sometimes counterintuitive and works in ways more complex than you can imagine.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Stay on top of the information!!!! This course is insanely dense. Where as in AP Biology in high school you might have spent a week on photosynthesis, here you cover the entire process in more depth within a 90 minute time span, and that might even be at 8 in the morning. Find interest in what you're studying and all of a sudden you will be able to relate to the material and find importance in memorizing and understanding it. Listen to the professor's advice and if you're having trouble with a certain topic, don't leave it for the next week or right before finals to understand but rather go to the professor that day or the next and read extra material on it. The information will pile up, trust me. If you stay on top of it week by week and spend time with the material, you will feel comfortable enough to take the exams with confidence.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The course covers a lot of material for a ten-week course. By the end of the course, you'll have a good understanding of various biological concepts that you may not have been introduced to in your high school biology class.

    Course highlights:

Dr. Phelan has a unique way in teaching his students. In the lecture, he will use experimental data that will certainly hel[p you to better understand a complicated biological concept. Through his unique teaching skills, I have been introduced to the various of ways that research can be conducted and interrupted - a very important skill to develop in college.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

It is crucial to have a flexible schedule if you plan to take this course. If you think you can balance four classes while taking this course, then I advise you to not take more than two science/math course. This class does take a lot of time for studying, so be wary of taking on a huge load of difficult classes during the quarter.
