Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because the professor talks about many important ethical issues that we face today. She is extremely skilled at getting the point across, and also teaching her students how to build ethical arguments. In this class students learn a skill that will prove to be valuable to them in the future.

    Course highlights:

The units on abortion and animal rights were very interesting, and relevant to many students whether they were pre-med students or interested in research.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Read all of the articles she assigns. Also the Powerpoints may be worth few points, but they add up. Her class is point based so be careful.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because professor Cvrkel is by far one of the best professors I have met during my time at UCLA. She is an engaging and captivating lecturer that will have your undecided attention for the entirety of her lecture. At the end of her biomedical ethics course the entire point of her course was in the hopes that we, as her students, would have the material we've learned throughout the course and use it to improve our thinking on how we approach obstacles in the future.

    Course highlights:

One of the best highlights of this course was professor Cvrkel herself, she is an incredibly caring professor with a wonderful personality that was always there for all of her students during a time of crisis. My favorite unit during her ethics class was on the topic of abortion. She presents case by case leading to the conclusion that abortion is morally permissible even if coitus was consensual.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

It is a biomedical ethics class, so be prepared to be questioning your position on quite a few topics. Professor Cvrkel does not mean to offend anyone's political, ethical, or religious views at all. It's because during her course sensitive topics will be discussed such as: abortion, animal rights, and rape. It's also not an easy class at all. There is no clear answer at all. On midterms and the final exam you are presenting with a specific case and are to explain it from a certain viewpoint. It's also not a typical answer you would give to the question. You have to present a sound argument with premises that lead to a valid conclusion. It's not regurgitating information you've learned throughout the course, it's entirely based on using what you've learned and applying it.
