Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The history of rock 'n' roll was not a class that I would have thought to enjoy. However, this course is taught by a great professor with great teacher assistants, and has very "refreshing material." It was very fun and interesting to learn about the artists and musical trends of the music that I listen to today.

    Course highlights:

Not only was I able to boast about my new knowledge of the histories of certain musical artists and songs, but I was also exposed to new music that I had never listened to before. A large portion of the class is simply listening to the music, and this was a fun experience.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

You really need to spread out the material. I know a lot of students cram for their finals and exams, but for the simple fact that part of the exams in this course is to recognize songs that cannot be skipped or condensed, it is wise to learn the material beforehand. Otherwise, you might have to memorize over 80 songs in a single night.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend it because first of all, the actual topic of the class is relatively new to the century and is extremely fascinating. It takes us deep in to the roots of why music feels good to human beings and how we as a society have shaped pop culture with music.

    Course highlights:

The highlights were the listening portions of the class. We got to hear and learn the music along with the effects. And because it's EDM, we got in depth with the technology as well. Towards the end as we started going over present-day music, it posed a question of what the music of the near future would be like.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Get into the habit of listening assignments. You can't memorize 20 songs and dates and titles in one night. Enjoy musical studying. Be able to describe music with musical terms and analyze cause and effect between musical quality and societal behavior.
