Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

As a UCLA student, you are part of a large research institution. If you are interested in the researching as a scientist, then you need the skills to perform lab-work. This course introduces you to the materials and techniques UCLA and many other great institutions use to discover new information. It helps you become more comfortable with the lab equipment and it excited me to further my education in the science research lab. Highly recommend this class if you are not familiar with the lab equipment at UCLA.

    Course highlights:

The greatest highlight of this course was getting to dissect a rat that was not preserved using any chemicals. To be able to experience a live dissection helped me understand the true sacrifice in science. These are the creatures that have allowed science to move forward without harming the human population. I have grown an immense appreciation for these lab animals. It helped me learn about the organs in real-time. It was cool to not just stare at a picture in my textbook.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Go into this class excited to learn. Always give a hundred percent because every week teaches us something new and interesting. Take your time absorbing the information and I recommend you do and make sure you are involved in the lab. Focus on what is emphasized in the lectures because it might end up on the final.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course offers plenty of hands-on introduction to fundamental laboratory techniques life science majors need to know. The course applies concepts learned from other courses in a more practical experience to reinforce previously learned concepts.

    Course highlights:

The laboratory experiments were very interesting and enjoyable, and also learning to write a formal scientific laboratory report was useful.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

To succeed, remember to always watch the lecture videos before each lab period and read through the manual. Having learned the concepts needed for the experiment and keeping track of the procedures makes the process in lab smoother and more enjoyable.
