    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course completely changed my view on the US prison system and inspired me to pursue a career in public policy.

    Course highlights:

Haney was one of the grad student researchers in Zimbardo's Stanford Prison Study, and went on to have a successful career as an advocate for reform in the US prison system. More than a decade later, I can still remember learning about the Pinto scandal, the origin of the Twinkie Defense, and the nature of a justice system that favors (and profits from) a punitive approach to incarceration over a rehabilitative approach, and how this creates a repeating cycle of recidivism.

    Hours per week:

    Advice for students:

An incredible course taught by an inspiring professor - dive in.
