    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

Griggs does a great job because he is one of the most accomplished researchers of oceanography. He has dedicated his life to understanding deep sea trenches and seismology. He knows his stuff, and engages students in riveting lectures about research technology.

    Course highlights:

Learning about how the ocean floor is studied. I learned tons about deep sea oil drilling, environmentalism, and how the ocean and land are codependent.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the book, take good notes, and get close with Gary (mostly because he is really cool!) His tests are exactly what he lectures about, go over your notes and you will do well in this class.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The professor is an absolute "prankster"/funny/smart person. He makes everything he teaches in class interesting and promotes a lot of hands on learning.

    Course highlights:

I did a lot of experiments about zooplankton. Many of his lecture contain interesting videos that we revisited many times.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Be ready to learn about all the things about the ocean.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would not recommend this course if you are NOT an earth major! This course with this specific professor zeroes in on the importance and specificity of all things taught. If you aren't this major, you will just spend most of class time wondering "why is this guy collecting so much sand???" IT'S JUST SAND.

    Course highlights:

Even though I wouldn't recommend this course to students who aren't earth majors, the highlight of this course is seeing how passionate the professor is about all things sand and rocks. It's a tough class to follow and his tests are huge curve balls, even for someone who studies a lot. This class is named oceanography but you come to realize you're learning more about the earth than what's in the water.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

For this course, I think you should find a study buddy in this major because my science friends and I studied for this class and got no where!! And make flash cards! Talk to the professor and have him explain things twice.
