    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class helped improve my writing skills greatly, and showed me that there is a formula to everything, from math and science to analyzing short stories or writing an essay on F. Scott Fitzgerald. Had I not taken AP Language Arts, I'd be doomed when it came to applying for scholarships and schools. Not only does it improve your composition skills, but it allows you to have oppinions on topics you are discussing in class and it allows you to voice those opinions to you peers and your teacher. I haven't taken a class I value more than AP Language and Composition.

    Course highlights:

Before this course, I couldn't write an essay where I stayed on the same topic for at least a paragraph I didn't know how to cite my sources, analyze what I was reading with through knowledge on the topic or author, and I had no idea that creating a formula for writing would be so beneficial. At the beginning of the first semester, I had no idea what I was doing or why I decided to take the class. However with the help of an awesome teacher and a straightforward curriculum, I passed the class and the exam stress-free. Not only did I improve my composition and analytical skills greatly, but now I have more confidence knowing that I can apply to schools with an A-OK essay to send in.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Listen in class!!!! There were classes where I wanted to fall asleep or stare out the window and block out the sounds of kids reading The Crucible, but if I had not buckled down and payed attention in class I probably would not have passed the exam or improved in my composition skills at all. Also, it is extremely important that you create a formula. Even if the essay's get boring and repetitive, if they make sense and create a conclusion you and your teacher understand, use the same formula. While you can express yourself in this class and bring in your own opinions, this is an intro to college level writing and it is important that the essays you write in this class need to follow the guidelines and make sense.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

A very good class that helps students prepare for college paper writing and allows individuals to learn proper grammar skills and how to format essays correctly (specifically in MLA format). I also felt well-prepared for the exam.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to properly format essays in this course, how to read passages and dissect them so that i could understand them regardless of the syntax they were written in (i can now easily read Shakespeare).

    Hours per week:

    0-2 hours

    Advice for students:

Take all the essay writing you do in this class seriously because they really help prepare you for the AP exam. Also try to work on the multiple choice passages she gives you every week as the AP exam nears because they also help you prepare for the Advanced Placement exam at the end of the year.
