    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I believe all schools should offer this course. Our world is changing, but our minds are not evolving even half as quickly along with it. This creates a bitter society, and one highly unprepared for handling differing identities. This course is truly an eye-opener and a gateway to knowledge and love.

    Course highlights:

The intimacy of having a relatively small class enabled us to grow closer to one another and learn to appreciate and even embrace each other. I learned that you should treat others the way THEY wish to be treated, and get to know yourself before you go out and judge others.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared to work your butt off and read, read, read! But also, take time to reflect on the course and allow yourself to learn. And lastly, ask questions and make yourself known.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class focuses more than any other English class on producing quality writing in a timely manner. Previous English classes I've taken have taught me to write timed essays, but ICL 12 is a class perfect for precollege essay writing practice. Pernoon teaches extremely well, is always there to help, and offers tons of opportunities to earn points so you can worry about learning his material and producing great papers rather than those 2 points you need to get out of grade-straddling area. The coursework is intensive and pertinent, so you'll find yourself with a much greater understanding of the world.

    Course highlights:

The textbook for this class is AMAZING. The Socratic Seminars are always really insightful and you really find your voice through them.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Annotate well! Learn to annotate so that you can get through the material quickly, and absorb as much as possible. Do your quickwrites, they're free points. Ask questions and check up with him while you construct your thesis for each paper. Pernoon gives great pointers.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Honestly, I believe Intercultural Literature should be a required class for all people. Even those who obtain the basic knowledge of the things we learn go on to learn even more. Most master the concept of becoming politically correct when addressing racial studies, LGBT+ studies, gender studies, studies of disabled individuals, and so on. You watch tons of interesting movies, which are not only enjoyable but extremely eye opening and heart wrenching in the best way possible. You read amazing theories and in time easily create your own. I could write about it for pages but to get to the point, it is such an important and wonderful class and I 100% recommend it.

    Course highlights:

The personal highlight of the class was learning beyond the information I already had learned. I came to understand so much about life, people, and the struggling situations that individuals face every day. I feel as though I have grown as a student in all aspects. Writing, debates, reading. Of course, it’s not simply the class that assisted my growth, but rather the absolutely amazing teacher. Hands down the most amazing I’ve ever had. I feel ready to take on whatever my university throws at me because Mr. Pernoon properly prepared me to do so.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Come in with a mindset ready to work, brainstorm, and discover. This is not a slackers class and one must invest themselves in the topics learned in order to fully understand and sympathize. Spread out your studying time. It may seem like a lot but with the help of Mr. Pernoon, it honestly is not that bad. Come ready to learn!
