Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

It is a new way to look at science; including an intro to Microbiology mixed with lots of labs and different perspectives on current issues. It is great because you also get to explore different careers when you are doing these labs, nothing like this is typically done in a high school setting, so if you're passionate about science, DO NOT pass this up.

    Course highlights:

I gained an extensive knowledge for many things in Biology. I now know DNA replication more and have a more in depth understanding of how the body works and how we can use science to better the world. It is a great class, I loved debating Stem cells and GM foods.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Study for the tests with friends and make different tricks to remember things like DNA replication and RNA replication.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Biotech is a great way to do laboratory work while also learning the statistics and how things work.

    Course highlights:

I loved biotech because I am interested in science. You learn a lot about genetics and how the world has changed things. You also learn about GMO's, Stem Cells, RNAi, Gene expression, and more. I am in biotechnology two right now and currently am doing research with C. elegans that are induced with Alzheimer's. and how CBD and Lions Mane mushroom extract affect their paralysis.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you're passionate about science and willing to work hard. Not too much homework but when there is, it may be a lot. There are a lot of nitty gritty things that are important. Missing this class is rough.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

By taking the course of Intro to Biotechnology, I have been exposed to science knowledge that are more in depth than an average high school student will take. This course has provided me with further insight on the environment of a scientific research lab and has given me access to the highly advanced technology that a research scientist would use.

    Course highlights:

From this course, a true highlight would be the accessibility to advanced technological equipment used when performing our lab experiments and the opportunity to keep a scientific lab notebook. The scientific lab notebook gave the students a taste of what it would be like to follow all of the scientific protocols to maintaining it, as my teacher was strict for which we could and could not do in the lab notebook. I also learned more about using the various equipment, such as how to properly use a BSL cabinet and how to properly keep your working environment sterile. Also, another highlight was our accessibility to using model organisms such as Drosophilia flies as well as C. Elegans worms, where we silenced a gene and caused a mutation.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I would definitely advise students to take this course as this would provide you, as a high school student, a sneak peek of what the real world scientists do as their career. If you find that this course isn't right for you, then it isn't too late for you to choose a different career path, as opposed to a graduate student who discovers that biotechnology doesn't suite their passions.
